Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix Stand Makes a Triumphant Return to the 2018 Autosport International Show
Following last year’s success, Baku City Circuit (BCC) once again exhibited at the internationally renowned Autosport International Show (ASI) at the NEC Arena in Birmingham, England. The four-day exhibition, which took place from January 11th to 14th, marked Europe’s largest indoor pre-season motorsport event, featuring the very latest in motorsport, automotive and performance engineering technology, alongside cars and exhibitors from every level of motor racing. The ASI typically has 27,000 trade visitors and 60,000 public visitors, including approximately 5,000 overseas visitors.
Conveniently located opposite the F1 Racing stand – displaying a full line-up of every Formula One car on last year’s grid – the BCC stand experienced tremendous footfall throughout the four days in the NEC Arena as fans, media and industry insiders dropped by to learn about the newest street circuit in Formula 1 and the home of what was overwhelmingly considered to be the best race of the 2017 season – an indeed the best race in many years – by most teams, drivers, media and fans alike.
The highlight of the stand was without doubt the two F1 simulators of Baku City Circuit that had been laid on for anyone wishing to showcase their own driving skills on the fastest street circuit in F1. The further addition of the Batak Wall – where visitors could test their reaction times - the stand was a constant hub of activity with competitive punters trying to set the fastest simulator time and best reaction time on the wall, whilst enjoying traditional Azerbaijani snacks and treats and learning more about where to stay and what to see when visiting beautiful Baku.
In an effort to reward the many visiting fans who came to Birmingham for the weekend, BCC also held a raffle that saw one lucky guest win two flights, accommodation and grandstand tickets to Baku for the 2018 Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix, taking place at the new date of April 27th -29th this year. With such an amazing prize on offer it was no surprise that BCC collected thousands of raffle entries from visitors to the stand throughout the weekend.
The BCC team was also busy with additional promotional activities in Birmingham, regularly hosting visits from journalists, including a live Sky Sports News interview for BCC’s Executive Director, Arif Rahimov, as well as media, commercial and operational partners who came by the stand.
Rahimov, alongside BCC’s Head of Marketing & Communications, Nigar Arpardarai, also took to the main Autosport and F1 Racing stages at several points throughout the weekend to discuss their plans for this year’s race and beyond.
Rahimov was delighted with BCC’s second appearance at the Autosport International Show as he reflected on another successful weekend in Birmingham: “It was such a pleasure to be at the Autosport International show once again. We have been overwhelmed by the amount of people who visited our stand and expressed a desire to learn more about our beautiful capital city and even to come and experience this amazing spectacle for themselves. Last year’s incredible race has certainly raised the profile of our event and increased the anticipation for this year’s race weekend. We can expect another enthralling race in 3 months since the weather in April can be very unpredictable and temperatures can drop overnight. When we tell fans to expect the unexpected, we really mean it!”
